thats a fungal infection. he needs to see a podiatrist. How do you get rid of foot and shoe odor and also get rid of discoloration of toe nails?
there are a few things you can try.

-buy socks with deodorizing stuff in them (odor eliminators)

-use foot spray in his shoes and make sure its in there all the time !

-cut his toenails and use peroxide to lighten them a little bit, i learned that in cosmetology class when we did pedicures !

-make sure he showers everyday, otherwise his foot odor will just get worse.

good luck ! :)

Im starting to notice some hardening and discoloration in my toe nails???? Help!!1?

I think i might be a getting some nail fungus what is good for this type of thing.Im starting to notice some hardening and discoloration in my toe nails???? Help!!1?
It sounds as if you are getting nail fungus.

My husband got it and then I got it ';What an icky pain';.

Make sure to bleach the floor of your shower frequently. It is contagious to anyone that uses the shower.

This is a home remedy but you can use Listerine on your nails and toes to help discourage it.

You can also soak your feet in apple cider vinegar.

These are home remedies that are supposed to be helpful.Im starting to notice some hardening and discoloration in my toe nails???? Help!!1?
Go to your pharmacist or doctor and get some antifumgal cream. They will recommend one.
There are topical ointments that can be purchased over the counter at most drug stores/pharmacies. The best approach is to ask the pharmacist.

Nail fungus is tenacious and takes months to clear. You should consider asking your physician to look at it, as there are prescriptive treatments available.

You might also want to try the holistic treatments. I've heard that the oils of various plants and herbs have been touted as being effective on nail fungus, but I have no personal knowledge of this. You can Google 'nail fungus' and see what all is out there.
go see your doctor, or ask the pharmacist. probably something like daktarin which is antifungal may help.
once you have the start of nail fungus you will need to go to the doctor and get a prescription. you can buy over the counter things, but it won't go beneath the nail bed and that's where the fungus is thriving. call your doctor and make an appointment. nail fungus is hard to get rid of so be prepared!

Discoloration in skin after trimming nails.?

I recently trimmed my toenail on my big toe. A few days later it starts to sting everytime I touch the side of the nail where I trimmed it. (The part next to the skin) A day later the a small area of the exposed skin where I trimmed the nail has turned a whitish green color. What is wrong with my toe? Cause I hope it's nothing serious.Discoloration in skin after trimming nails.?
It sounds like you trimmed down a little close to the quick, and you have an infection trying to set in. Keep it very clean and dry, and consider seeing a dermatologist on the off chance that you can get a good antiseptic salve.

Good luck!

It may be as simple as a vitamin deficiency. You can go to your doctor if you want to and see if it is anything major. If not, then widen your range or healthy foods and see if it does not improve. I watch a show called ';You are what you eat'; and I have seen this kind of thing on there before.Nail Discoloration?

Why have I been experiencing pain under my nails both finger and toes with no discoloration ?

I have no change in lifestyle or anything it happens maybe once or twice daily .It's usually a different nail each time. Please Help! Why have I been experiencing pain under my nails both finger and toes with no discoloration ?
It could be that you are over-scrubbing your nail areas when you're cleaning up, or that your nerves are just undergoing some routine growth and replenishment, and short pains happen to everyone.

Have you ever rubbed a sore spot and felt a pain in another part of your body, completely unassociated with the sore spot? Nerves are like that.

    Nail bed discoloration?

I have researched online and never have found an answer. What is it when the nail be is normal up to the tip near the end of the nail (tips) except there is a line that goes left to right that is slightly more pale. The lines are on all nails, the lines do not move and they are about 1-2mm in size. Looks kinda like there is a red line that goes across, but it is really the cut off where the lighter shade begins......hope I was clearNail bed discoloration?

    White Lab's with nail discoloration.?

I have a white lab and every now and then one of his toenails will turn all black. what causes this to happen? and what is it? : )White Lab's with nail discoloration.?
Well, from my experience, I know that dogs can be born with their nails black - but is unusual/odd that they periodically change colors.

It could just be dirt that is caking up around his nails, but if he licks his feet a lot that could be it as well. Saliva can turn hair and nails a brownish color over time. If he is licking his feet a lot, then its possible he could have some allergies that make his feet itch. It also wouldn't hurt to take him to the vet to rule out the possibility of a skin infection, especially if the skin is red.

Another possibility is a fungal infection. It's going to be hard to determine if he has a fungal infection without looking at a sample under the microscope, but that is a possibility as well. I have definitely seen dogs that have yeast infections or other skin problems develop brownish nails. If it does turn out to be fungal, then you're vet should be able to give you some wipes for his feet to help.

I would call your vet's office tomorrow and speak to them about it, they're the ones that will be able to make the best diagnosis!

Good luck!White Lab's with nail discoloration.?

Does thyroid mis-function cause nail discoloration?

I have noticed discoloration of my nails on my fingers (almost all of them) have some sort of streaks and some form of semi dark lines. It seems to have started after Sub Acute Thyroiditis 2 years ago. Even though my thyroid fuction seems to have retruned to normal but these discolorations on my nails remain. Can you comment on this issue please. My dermotologist says that it is conclusive that it is related to my thyroid misfunction and unfortunately there is nothing he can do or subscribe to make it better.Does thyroid mis-function cause nail discoloration?
Yes-I suffer from nail discoloration due to hypo-thyroidism myself and I found that zinc and calcium supplements have almost made them disappear : )Does thyroid mis-function cause nail discoloration?
Here are a few options. one - try soaking your nails in bleach for about 1 min. do that for one min, every day. for one week.

also if you paint your fingernails, all the time..... the lack of oxygen can discolor them . it happened to me. i had to keep the pain off for about 2 weeks and then i learned of the bleach when it happened to one of my fingernails. it works. i dont think thyroid problems will do that. my mom has a thyroid problem , and she said it your thyroid doesnt have anything to do with her nails.
I have hypothyroidism (reduced thyroid function), specifically Hashimoto's (my body is slowly destroying my thyroid gland) diagnosed 3 years ago. I've been taking replacement thyroid medication (Synthroid or Levathroid) for as long as well.

I haven't had any type of nail discoloration because of the thryoid condition.

Are the lines side-to-side on your nail or going from the cuticle to the tip? If they're side-to-side, that generally indiciates some temporary damage to the nail bed (stress, poor diet, physical damage) and should eventually grow out. ';White clouds'; are common. If they are cuticle to tip, then it sounds like something more permanent is happening with your nail bed and nail production. Have you noticed a change in your toe nails? Or your hair? That may be an indication of a significant mineral deficiency - either in your diet or the way your body processes/stores/uses calcium or some thing else.

It may be worth your peace-of-mind to consult an endocrinologist and find out if it could be a side effect of the subacute thyroiditis or other thyroid condition.

    Heya-

Try buffing the area. That gets rid of dead Keratin and ridges. Also gets rid of that nasty discoloration - buff hard though!

For future reference - always use a base coat under your polish - any brand will do. This stops the discoloration. Dark colors on your nails without a base coat create a build up of yucky stuff - so just remember your buffing and base.

Lemon juice is a natural whitener that may help as well. A good squeeze in a bowl of hot water and a soak then buff should do the trick.
try visiting a nail salon and ask them to help with this dilema
there is this stuff called bubble white it is sold at andy beauty supply store! All you do is pour a scoop of this powder in some warm water and stoak your toes and/or hand in it for 10 min! This stuff is awesome it bleaches them without the harmful chemicals!!

Let the sunshine in....I was told you have to let your nails rest from polish sometimes.
The discoloration is probably not from polish. Most likely you have a fungal infection and you should approach it as if you do.
Try Lemon Juice ! Soak your fingers in them for abit.
It s so easy to get rid of those yellow discoloration. You have to use a very fine emery board on the surface of your nail and buff with it very gently. Then use a buffer to polish and make your nail shine. You ll see all the yellow stains disapear
Stop wearing nail varnish for a month or so, this will go away.

Once it has, invest in a good undercoat and use this every time, before applying nail varnish.
    use nailpolish remover

Skin discoloration around nail area. I do get my nails done and I'm wondering why my skin is changing colors?

You have to be very careful were you go to get your nails done. I dont have an answer for you but I can relate. I got my nails done about... 2 years ago and the woman was in a rush since it was near closing. She cut my finger and of course I didnt think anything of it since I'd been getting my nails done for year and it wasnt the first time. Well a few months later it was still sore and seemed to be getting infected. My whole finger was ichy, burning, and deep red. Then it started to spread to my other fingers. I went back to them and they told me I was having a allergic reaction. Which is b.s. since Ive been doing my nails for years. Finally about a year after the incedent I went to a doctor and they were no help and told me they couldnt say if it was them that caused it since it had been so long. Now every time its cold outside 3 of my fingers on my right hand get ichy and little bumps on them. Still havent been able to get rid of it. I dont even know what it is. Ive never had this before until that chick cut my finger. I'm pretty sure her materials werent cleaned properly or something.Skin discoloration around nail area. I do get my nails done and I'm wondering why my skin is changing colors?
You need to be more specific, im not sure if its only 1 nail or all your nails, is it painful? swollen? If its one nail, then im pretty sure you must of cut your skin around that nail by accident, and the chemicals they use on your nails must of went in causing minor irritation to your skin hence the discoleration.

Just get some flesh colored polish and put on a thin coat. No one will notice, it will just slightly color it the color you want.
well, it's not quick, but my husband has tried Vicks Vapor Rub and after like a week of using in on the toenails twice a day they do look much better.

You just put it on and let it sit on your toenails (can't really rub it in or anything). Probably do want to do this at home though - it's kinda messy / aromatic to have on when your out running around.

I have a slightly lighter discoloration under my nail bed near the top of the nail, is this normal?

I know it sounds a little neurotic to ask a question like that, but Ive always paid special attention to my nails and have only recently noticed this. It looks slightly paler, just along the part of the nail that isn't attached to skin. I have been very fatigued lately, and usually have alot of energy. I don't know if the two are related, but I noticed the discoloration almost immediately after the fatigue started. yes nail growth habits are known to be linked to stress, but it could simply be a change in diet, nutriton, or just maybe moisture in the air. certain chemicals can do it too

Can late stage Lyme disease cause nail discoloration?

Possible.. not likely. Nail discoloration is usually a sign of kidney, pulmonary, or heart problems. Can late stage Lyme disease cause nail discoloration?
Lyme disease can be associated with other bacterial issues, but I'm not really sure about fungal issues, which usually cause toenail or fingernail discolorations. There is an entire website dedicated to Lyme disease that you might find helpful in answering your question. See the link below. If you don't find what you need, you can always e-mail the website with your question directly and possibly find a definitive answer through their moderator. Good Luck. Can late stage Lyme disease cause nail discoloration?
I don't know specifically about nail discoloration. But chronic Lyme disease trashes the immune system, opening the gate for fungus, parasites, yeast, viruses, you name it. So, even if the Lyme didn't ';cause'; the discoloration, it may well have contributed to body conditions which allowed it to happen.

you need to go to the spa and get a proper nail file done. i do this at home. i take a fine grain nail file and file the nail bed. then i take a manicure block (you can get these at the drug store for super cheap) and i use the coarsest one first , then the pink 'cuticle' side , then i finish with the smooth buffing side. it gets rid of most of the discoloration. if you have managed to almost completely remove it already this may finally just get rid of it all for you. if you dont want the trouble and you have the money i suggest going to the spa for a full file and manicure.

just dont paint your nails for a while. this affect will fade away in a few weeks.
Let the sunset grow, and the next time you paint your toenails, make sure to put a clear layer on, and then the colored layer.
dude same thing happened to me once, and i had to wait like forever for it to grow out. but i think you should use a basecoat next time you paint your nails, it helps the polish stay longer and will protect your nails better.

Even through you might not remember injuring the nail, you must have hit on something. From your description sounds like you have bruise the nail. You will eventually loose the nail, Don't worry it will grow back. My advice is cut the nail as much as possible, and keep short until it grows out. You can also try soaking it in some Peroxide at least 3 times daily, this might bring some of the coloring back in the nail also.
